'Open the Book was only established as a national venture as recently as 2007, and with extraordinary speed and with minimal publicity, it has reached the significant milestone of the registration of its 1000th Bible story-telling church team' - so reports the latest Open the Book Newsletter.

In our area we have been part of this exciting growth, presenting Bible stories to children in primary schools first in Halesworth, then Holton, then Wenhaston, and hopefully, in the not-too-distant future, in Bramfield.

But we know that unless the assemblies we take are prayer-soaked, they will not achieve the goals we are aiming for. So please continue to pray for the children and their families, the schools and the teams.

Autumn term at Edgar Sewter was a delight; we had a lot of fun acting the Bible stories - the children enjoyed them too! Thank you for your prayers.

A few snippets:

Don was a stunning Esau, with a bright red wig and very hairy arms (real goatskins provided by Jean Wagg).

Jill looked lovelier than she should have done as the ugly Leah, on her wedding day, but suffered bravely the ill-disguised disgust of her groom.

Doug, as Joseph, twirled and floated about the stage in his multi-coloured striped coat, proud as a peacock, and gloating over his brothers. And then so forlorn and sad in his prison cell, our hearts went out to him. (Do ask Doug about one child‟s reaction when he was Ruler of Egypt.)

Kathryn, Katie, Bob and Pat (Simons) managed to collapse and die most convincingly during the 40 years wandering in the wilderness.

And Frank as Gideon - well, he was all shook up, trembling and stammering, telling God he couldn‟t be a brave leader, and then boldly went (where no man had been before?) to conquer the Midianites with just Don and two children, and not a sword in sight!

On a more serious note, the message conveyed by many of these stories comes afresh to the team as well. We have felt challenged about what it means to trust God in seemingly hopeless situations.

We are so very thankful for the support we get from the school, especially the headmaster, who often encourages the children to think about some of the points the story has made.

For your interest and prayers, the stories we shall be presenting in the Spring term are as follows:

We are called to be children of God, and as a part of His church we are commanded to love and encourage each other. We believe we must obey Jesus Christ's command to proclaim His Gospel to all the world.
